You can have your pick of crewed yacht and bare boat rentals, as well as learn to sail courses. Even if you’re not a sailor, you shouldn’t miss an opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of a day or evening cruise.

Deep-Sea Fishing

Grenada boasts some of the Caribbean’s best game fish waters and the annual Spice Island Game Fishing Tournament attracts pros from all over the world. For novices, there are plenty of charter companies that offer day trips to the same fine fishing grounds.

Hiking

The most popular area in Grenada for hiking and trekking is undoubtedly the rainforest around the Grand Etang Forest Reserve, high up in the mountains of the island’s interior. Grand Etang’s varied elevations and terrains maintain several different ecological subsystems, culminating in the elfin woodlands high up the slopes of the reserve’s central mountains.

Some popular trails include:

Morne LaBaye Trail

This brief and easy walk, which takes about fifteen (15) minutes and is suitable for the whole family, features twelve points of interest intended to acquaint the visitor with the area’s ecology. The trail departs directly from the visitor center and provides an easy walk through the natural environment. Vegetative species are labeled with signs, and a brief explanation of their history and importance are outlined in an available trail-guide.

Mt. Qua Qua Trail

The trail begins at the Mt. Qua Qua trailhead. The rocky, mountainous ridge to Mt. Qua Qua is well worth the rigorous two and a half hour trek (both ways); the commanding view from the peak at over 2,370 ft.

St. Margaret’s Trail

Truly a trail for the more adventurous hiker. This rugged and untamed trail will provide a rich training experience in tropical trekking, as well as in-sight as to what it must have been like for ancient Carib and Arawak bushwhackers. Located just right on the Morne LaBaye trail, be prepared for a one and a half hour hike where you will enjoy the untamed beauty of the cool, blue, gratifying Seven Sisters waterfalls. Proper footwear and caution should be taken, as this trail can be steep and slippery.

Diving

Locals and visitors alike enjoy a unique dive product, both topside and underwater. Both Grenada and Carriacou are known for spectacular walls and wrecks, with sharks, turtles, lobsters and giant moray eels gliding against the backdrop of soft coral forest, striking reefs and sponges. The two islands offer a variety of dive sites with breathtaking Under-water scenery and abundant marine life.

Below are some of the dive sites on offer:

Diving Sites - Grenada

Bianca C

The largest wreck site in the Caribbean, the Bianca C is a 600-foot cruise ship that sank in 1961 and lies on a sandy plain in 167 feet of water. At times there are strong tidal currents, making this an advanced deep dive (with a checkout dive required). The top deck lies at 90 feet and most dives proceed around the stern, where you can swim into the pool, visit the wheel-house on the aft deck and peer down at the sandy plain below. There are schools of jacks, barracuda and spotted eagle rays in abundance.

Boss Reef

There are three main dive sites on this extensive reef.

The Hole
This starts in sand bars then descends down a slope to 50 feet. Further along this gentle drift dive, you will come to the hole, a frequent hang-out for barracuda.

The Valley of the Whales
This is a colourful dive site where hills of coral contrast with occasional Spanish hog-fish.

Forests of Dean
This offers vast expanses of soft brown coral “”trees”” that hide shoals of tropicals. In the sand-patches you will find rays, conch and octopus.

Channel Reef

A shallow reef that drops off to form a deep-water entrance to St. George’s Harbour.

Grand Mal Point

One of the few wall dives around Grenada and Carriacou. The wide spectrum of reef life is accented with plentiful whip coral, gorganians and sea fans.

Flamingo Bay

Offers the dive wall with the most prolific fish life. Shoals of Creole wrasse, yellow chromis, grunts and jack knife fish lead down the wall to 90 feet where grouper, jacks and rays can be seen.

Dive Sites - Carriacou

Carriacou means “Island of Reefs” and is famous for its beautiful coral gardens, especially the variety in soft corals and small critters like sea horses. These are some of the popular dive sites available here:

West Sider

The West Sider is Carriacou’s newest wreck and is about 100ft long and accessible to all levels of certified divers.

Barracuda Point

Located off Sister Rocks, this dive starts at 9 meters (27 feet) with a slope/wall to a maximum depth of 23 meters (75 feet). This dive is suitable for experienced divers only with excellent underwater photography opportunities and good drift diving. Nursesharks, Nudibranches, Giant Green Moray Eels, Turtles and Barracuda can all be found here.

Chinatown

Located off Frigate island, this site starts at 8 meters (24 feet) slope to maximum depth of 23 meters (75 feet). Suitable for experienced divers only. Diving where the Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea meet, challenges the diver. The hard-coral formations remind one of the famous chinese pagodas. Black Durgeons, nursesharks, conch, Barracuda, sea-anemones and triggerfish abound.

Kick ‘em Jenny

Offers excellent visibility to about 100 feet and is a favourite of dive masters. Kick ‘em Jenny is a submarine volcano. Rare and plentiful coral and marine life can be seen there. The site is often combined with the area around Isle de Rhonde in a two-tank dive.
